The one off the rack fit me perfectly, which almost felt like a sign.<span class=\"redactor-invisible-space\"></span></span><br></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\" rel=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.</strong></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">I knew I would be going to <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/auckland.html\" target=\"_blank\">Astra Bridal</a> before I even got engaged. I used to work in Newmarket and go to school there, so I’ve grown up knowing about them. There was no way I was going anywhere else. My dress was actually the second one I tried on, and it’s 100% true what they say: 'When you know, you know.' The girls at <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/auckland.html\" target=\"_blank\">Astra Bridal</a> were incredibly helpful. I had no clue what I wanted going in, so they helped me find a dress they thought would suit me, and lo and behold—dress number 2 was the one! We were very close until our friend group split up, and I didn’t speak to any of them again for years. Then, during Covid, I posted on my Snapchat story that I was bored and said, 'Someone message me,' and lo and behold, Mat messaged me straight away! I fell in love with him the moment we first FaceTimed during Covid, and from then on, we were inseparable. He proposed on our 2-year anniversary at an Airbnb he had rented. I was out in the garden while he was unpacking our bags, and when I came back to the house, he brought out a bottle of champagne while we were outside in the courtyard. Then, he got on one knee and fell over, haha. He said the gravel was too sore, so he actually ended up asking me to marry him while he was hugging me after I helped him up! We had 100 people at our wedding, so after a little rest, we decided to do the ceremony again, but only with the bridal party, parents, and siblings. The reason the second ceremony was the best part of my day is that it was a lot more personal and relaxed. We were all laughing, the celebrant accidentally gave me Mat’s vows instead of mine, haha—it was just a lot more ‘fun,’ you could say. I worked at a hair salon, so my bridesmaids and I all had our hair done there, which was awesome—being pampered and seeing my girls getting pampered as well! I had the makeup artist come to the salon too, so we didn’t have to travel anywhere else for makeup. We then had to drive all the way to the venue (which was out near Kumeū). On the drive there, it started spitting and then slowly got heavier and heavier until we literally could not see anything on the road in front of us, which was absolutely terrifying: 1. Because I genuinely thought we were going to crash, and 2. Because my wedding was in the forest, and I didn’t want to have to change spots at the venue after envisioning a forest ceremony for an entire year! Luckily, luck was on our side, and as soon as we got to the venue, it looked like it hadn’t even rained! We then all headed into the bridal suite to get dressed and have something to eat, but I couldn’t wait to get into my dress, so I had my girls get dressed first so I could do my big reveal—and it sounds bad, but I couldn’t wait to see everyone cry, haha!</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">After all of that, I finally got to see my dad, and he finally saw me. I tried not to cry, but let me tell you, that was probably the hardest thing I’ve had to do when I saw my dad cry. We all then headed down to the forest, and as soon as that music started and I saw Mat… I started bawling and couldn’t stop. I think that must have been one of the most emotional moments I’ve experienced, but also one of the most beautiful. Our reception was very busy, let me tell you—people do care about the groom, but definitely not as much as the bride. Also, don’t expect everything to be perfect on the big day. If something goes wrong or something happens that you didn’t plan for, you might be let down or upset. Remember, regardless of anything, this day is your day, and it’s very hard to remember or even comprehend that! Because I genuinely thought we were going to crash, and 2. Because my wedding was in the forest, and I didn’t want to have to change spots at the venue after envisioning a forest ceremony for an entire year! Luckily, luck was on our side, and as soon as we got to the venue, it looked like it hadn’t even rained! My mum went up to him after he’d finished and started chatting with him about where he swam and how long he’d been swimming – I was 17 and so embarrassed! A couple of days later, we were both swimming again, and this time I started chatting to him, and the rest is history. We dated for a year while I lived in Tauranga, then I moved up to Auckland for uni, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">I went on a tour of the Elms in year 10 and instantly knew I wanted to get married there. Around Easter 2022, Henry and I had been together for 7 years, and the topic of marriage had come up a few times. So, one weekend when we were visiting my parents in Tauranga, we decided to go on a tour of the Elms. Henry insisted my whole family come along, which I thought was odd but didn’t think much more of it. At the end of the tour, he suggested we go stand in the spot where we’ll get married – again, I thought it was odd but went along with it. I hugged him and remarked that he was shaking. That was when he dropped to one knee and popped the question! After 7 years and so much talk about it, I can’t believe how much he still managed to surprise me. My bridesmaids and I had our hair and makeup done while Henry and his groomsmen got into their suits at the other end of the house. We did a first look in the hallway, which was so special; it helped me feel calmer and more centered before going into the ceremony with everyone's eyes on us. My mum surprised me with an amazing old-school green rental car that my dad and I rode in on our way to the ceremony. One of Henry's groomsmen is an incredible musician, and he played the violin as I walked down the aisle. The weather was absolutely beautiful and sunny – we were very lucky. We had a beautiful ceremony with a wonderful celebrant and ended up with the perfect first kiss photo. In the year leading up to the ceremony, my mum had collected and dried petals from her garden, and the guests threw them over us as confetti. We had our family photos taken outside the beautiful Elms Mission House, then had some champagne in the gardens and caught up with our guests. They then headed to our reception venue while we had our wedding party photos taken, and the weather started to get a bit overcast – apparently perfect for photos.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">The wedding party headed off, and we got our couple photos, which were so special. Our photographer was incredible, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. Just as we were finishing up our photos, it started to rain! We ended up getting some cool shots in the rain (plus, they say rain on your wedding day is lucky!), so I’m glad we experienced the full spectrum of weather at the perfect times. We then headed to the reception, where we had amazing vegetarian food, plenty of drinks, and awesome speeches. My new husband played 'A Thousand Miles' by Vanessa Carlton on the piano, which was beautiful, and my sister hosted the shoe game, which was hilarious. We then headed back to my parents' house, where Henry and I jumped in their pool in our wedding clothes! My family was on holiday in Auckland, and we both happened to be swimming at the Tepid Baths early in the morning. My mum went up to him after he’d finished and started chatting with him about where he swam and how long he’d been swimming – I was 17 and so embarrassed! A couple of days later, we were both swimming again, and this time I started chatting to him, and the rest is history. We dated for a year while I lived in Tauranga, then I moved up to Auckland for uni, and we’ve been inseparable ever since.</p><p style="text-align: center;">I went on a tour of the Elms in year 10 and instantly knew I wanted to get married there. Around Easter 2022, Henry and I had been together for 7 years, and the topic of marriage had come up a few times. So, one weekend when we were visiting my parents in Tauranga, we decided to go on a tour of the Elms. Henry insisted my whole family come along, which I thought was odd but didn’t think much more of it. At the end of the tour, he suggested we go stand in the spot where we’ll get married – again, I thought it was odd but went along with it. I hugged him and remarked that he was shaking. That was when he dropped to one knee and popped the question! After 7 years and so much talk about it, I can’t believe how much he still managed to surprise me. My bridesmaids and I had our hair and makeup done while Henry and his groomsmen got into their suits at the other end of the house. We did a first look in the hallway, which was so special; it helped me feel calmer and more centered before going into the ceremony with everyone's eyes on us. My mum surprised me with an amazing old-school green rental car that my dad and I rode in on our way to the ceremony. One of Henry's groomsmen is an incredible musician, and he played the violin as I walked down the aisle. The weather was absolutely beautiful and sunny – we were very lucky. We had a beautiful ceremony with a wonderful celebrant and ended up with the perfect first kiss photo. In the year leading up to the ceremony, my mum had collected and dried petals from her garden, and the guests threw them over us as confetti. We had our family photos taken outside the beautiful Elms Mission House, then had some champagne in the gardens and caught up with our guests. They then headed to our reception venue while we had our wedding party photos taken, and the weather started to get a bit overcast – apparently perfect for photos.</p><p style="text-align: center;">The wedding party headed off, and we got our couple photos, which were so special. Our photographer was incredible, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. Just as we were finishing up our photos, it started to rain! We ended up getting some cool shots in the rain (plus, they say rain on your wedding day is lucky!), so I’m glad we experienced the full spectrum of weather at the perfect times. We then headed to the reception, where we had amazing vegetarian food, plenty of drinks, and awesome speeches. My new husband played 'A Thousand Miles' by Vanessa Carlton on the piano, which was beautiful, and my sister hosted the shoe game, which was hilarious. We then headed back to my parents' house, where Henry and I jumped in their pool in our wedding clothes! What was it that made this particular wedding dress catch your eye and fall in love?As a swimmer, I have relatively broad shoulders, which I’m sometimes self-conscious about. So, I was surprised that an off-the-shoulder dress actually made my back and shoulders look amazing. The dress also had subtle sparkles and a slightly pinkish tone underneath, both of which I adored. When I tried it on in the store, I never wanted to take it off!Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.A few years before I got married, I did some research online. I was a big fan of Maggie Sottero and ended up finding the exact gown I wanted. They had it in store at Astra Bridal North Shore, so I made an appointment. Lara was my consultant, and she pulled a bunch of dresses she thought I would like, including my dream dress. I tried it on, and I loved it. Both wedding parties and guests were able to stay on-site, which was super fun, having everyone in one place.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">The girls were able to get ready with a few bubbles in the morning while the boys went off for a round of golf. Then it was go time! The ceremony took place outside on the lawn, surrounded by the rose gardens, and then we moved inside for the reception. It was a super fun day filled with love and laughter, running into the evening for the party and an epic sunset! The next day, we held a brunch for everyone at the venue, which was the perfect way to end the weekend celebrations and say goodbye to everyone before they went on their way. The next day, we held a brunch for everyone at the venue, which was the perfect way to end the weekend celebrations and say goodbye to everyone before they went on their way.
