There are plenty of options out there, but none had the right feel. Some I’d seen on SO many other brides already or the quality didn’t feel great. Nothing seemed to combine all the elements I wanted - until I got to my gown. It had all the right things going for it, and it just looked amazing on. It wasn’t the big \"YES\" I expected, but in the following days, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.</strong></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong></strong></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">After looking locally and not really finding anything, Hamilton was the next obvious choice. After looking online, I booked an appointment with <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/hamilton.html\" target=\"_blank\">Astra Bridal</a>. We drove up from Taranaki the morning of the appointment, and decided to head to The Base first for some shopping. Lo and behold, we got stuck in the carpark with millions of other cars trying to get out of the carpark! After half an hour, I was in tears and rung the ladies in a panic because we were now going to be late and might miss the entire appointment. Fortunately, this wasn’t a problem; we eventually made it, just half an hour late. Once I’d calmed down, the appointment went smoothly as I tried on many dresses. <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/khym.html\" target=\"_blank\">Khym</a> was a whiz at finding dresses that had all the best features in the hopes of helping me find the right one. I didn't fully decide that day, leaving with two options but leaning heavily toward the one I eventually chose. A week later, we were going to be driving past, so we called in to try on #1 again, and my heart was set! From then on, the process was super easy, and the dress arrived a few months before the wedding. We had known each other since we were 12/13, and we even ‘went out’ for three months, seeing each other maybe three times in total since I went to school in town and we didn’t live near each other. We didn’t have much contact until Liam messaged me in 2014, telling me he was going to be my new neighbour! We hadn’t seen each other for a few years, so this was out of the blue. We got chatting, and after nearly a year of messaging on Facebook, we gathered up the courage to meet again properly. There was no stopping us after that; we became boyfriend and girlfriend soon after, and we attended my Year 13 ball together. </p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">I moved away for university, but we had no intention of breaking up. After three years of long distance, I moved back home and started working, living apart again for a year while I commuted to Hamilton each week for work. A couple of years later, Liam FINALLY proposed on my birthday, casually rolling over in bed after saying goodnight to ask if we should get married. I said something like, \"Well, yeah, that’s the whole reason we're together, isn’t it?\" (we’d had this conversation before) and went back to scrolling through Facebook, until I realised this time was different and he was seriously asking me to marry him! This made getting from A to B a bit more challenging, as I didn’t want to get my beautiful dress dirty or wet! The ceremony was beautiful - short and sweet, with lots of tears from everyone. We followed it up with family photos in the church due to the rain. </p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Heading off for our bridal party photos, the rain had somewhat stopped, but we used umbrellas whenever it got heavier. By this point, my dress was pretty wet, but there wasn't much we could do about it. When we arrived back to our reception, the sun had come out! We got some amazing photos after dinner and speeches, with the sun setting behind us, which was such a nice surprise after such a wet day. We had lots of small disasters the morning of the wedding, but I didn’t let them get in the way of the big picture of the day! There are plenty of options out there, but none had the right feel. Some I’d seen on SO many other brides already or the quality didn’t feel great. Nothing seemed to combine all the elements I wanted - until I got to my gown. It had all the right things going for it, and it just looked amazing on. It wasn’t the big "YES" I expected, but in the following days, I couldn’t stop thinking about it.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong></strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">After looking locally and not really finding anything, Hamilton was the next obvious choice. We drove up from Taranaki the morning of the appointment, and decided to head to The Base first for some shopping. Lo and behold, we got stuck in the carpark with millions of other cars trying to get out of the carpark! After half an hour, I was in tears and rung the ladies in a panic because we were now going to be late and might miss the entire appointment. Fortunately, this wasn’t a problem; we eventually made it, just half an hour late. Once I’d calmed down, the appointment went smoothly as I tried on many dresses. <a href="https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/khym.html" target="_blank">Khym</a> was a whiz at finding dresses that had all the best features in the hopes of helping me find the right one. I didn't fully decide that day, leaving with two options but leaning heavily toward the one I eventually chose. We didn’t have much contact until Liam messaged me in 2014, telling me he was going to be my new neighbour! We hadn’t seen each other for a few years, so this was out of the blue. We got chatting, and after nearly a year of messaging on Facebook, we gathered up the courage to meet again properly. There was no stopping us after that; we became boyfriend and girlfriend soon after, and we attended my Year 13 ball together. </p><p style="text-align: center;">I moved away for university, but we had no intention of breaking up. After three years of long distance, I moved back home and started working, living apart again for a year while I commuted to Hamilton each week for work. A couple of years later, Liam FINALLY proposed on my birthday, casually rolling over in bed after saying goodnight to ask if we should get married. We followed it up with family photos in the church due to the rain. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Heading off for our bridal party photos, the rain had somewhat stopped, but we used umbrellas whenever it got heavier. By this point, my dress was pretty wet, but there wasn't much we could do about it. When we arrived back to our reception, the sun had come out! We got some amazing photos after dinner and speeches, with the sun setting behind us, which was such a nice surprise after such a wet day. It was the first and last place I went when dress shopping. I had no clue what I wanted but knew I wanted to try on everything and anything. I tried SOO many different styles, from a blush pink sparkly princess-like dress to a modern low neck A-line dress.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">The first time I went in, I was overwhelmed - not only by how many dresses there were but I also wasn't prepared for the fact that I would have to be in very little clothing while trying on dresses (honestly, I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't being half naked). We ended the night walking along the waterfront, and we stopped on this floating platform on the water. <span></span></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\" rel=\"text-align: center;\"> <strong></strong></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">On the day we got engaged, I was in a MOOD all day (I'm surprised he still asked me that day). We were going out for dinner with two of our friends before heading to a farewell. It was Matariki, and Michael had planned to propose when the fireworks went off, but we were still in the restaurant at the time. As we walked along the waterfront heading to the farewell, he led me down to the same floating platform from our first date. Watching not only his reaction but also the reactions of both family and friends was something else. I was so far out of my comfort zone, but it was a beautiful moment, and I could see how emotional and proud he was of me. My family would say that Michael is very reserved, so watching him join my family in the Haka is something I won't forget. We couldnt have asked for better weather; there wasnt a single cloud in the sky that day, which automatically put everyone in a good mood. Our ceremony was very us. We forgot words, made up words, stuttered, laughed, and cried. It was very short and sweet, just how we wanted it.Our reception was beautiful. The team at Nosh and Prefab outdid themselves - everything was exactly how we wanted it. The room was filled with nothing but happiness and joy as we looked over and saw our family and friends enjoying the night. Finally, what is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?Its going to sound blunt, but do what you and your husband-to-be want. I didn’t have time to lose weight before the wedding, so I wasn’t in my best shape, but the <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/forget-me-knot-katlyn.html\" target=\"_blank\">Katlyn</a> dress made me feel like the most beautiful bride ever. </p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.</strong></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong></strong>I\nunfortunately didn’t have enough time to go to multiple shops and take my time\nlooking for a dress. But luckily, during my research, I came across <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/north-shore-auckland.html\" target=\"_blank\">Astra Bridal</a>. While browsing their Instagram page, I came across the <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/forget-me-knot-katlyn.html\" target=\"_blank\">Katlyn</a>\ndress. When I saw it, I was like \"Ouuu, maybe this could be the one!\" We hadn’t\ndecided on a venue yet at that point, but the enchanted vibe of the dress made me feel like it was the one. The veil, that’s a story haha. I initially bought a veil, which at that time felt like the one. But as I kept trying it on, it just didn’t feel right. But thanks to <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/ilyese-court.html\" target=\"_blank\">Ilyese</a>, she helped me\nget a custom veil for my wedding, and I will cherish that forever! He had this aura about him that attracted me, but I wasn’t going to make\nthe first move. Luckily, he told me he had a crush on me, and we kind of went\nfrom there. We were official just after two weeks of meeting each other. </p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">We had\nour struggles because my parents were never on board with our relationship, and I\nhid our relationship for almost four years before telling them. They wanted me to\nessentially marry someone they chose, as they are very orthodox, but I knew deep\ndown that no one would treat me the way he does, and he is the best for me. I\ntook that leap of faith and got to know him for who he is, rather than just seeing him\nas a “Maori,” like my parents did, and it definitely paid off. I could not have\nasked for a better life partner, and I am so thankful to God for that. </p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">We’ve had\neach other's backs through thick and thin, and I am so proud of what he’s\nachieved in the last five years and where we are as a couple. But we were so lucky that the day we got married was nice and sunny, while the weather on either side of the week were bad and rainy. We saw it as a blessing from God that we had a beautiful day to get married. I was stressed while getting ready as I hadn’t done a practice run for my makeup, but luckily, I came up with something perfect for that day. My two bridesmaids did their own hair and makeup, and they looked so beautiful. They were very supportive and made the wedding a breeze. They helped out wherever they could, and I could not have asked for better bridesmaids. </p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">The ceremony was beautiful; we were surrounded by the people who love us and genuinely wanted to be there. I just wish it had lasted longer. That moment from being at the top of the aisle to exchanging rings went by so quickly, but I can still remember it as clear as day. There were tears of joy from everyone present. It was the most beautiful, intimate, and emotional ceremony ever. Everything was just perfect. </p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">We didn’t have any selected people to do speeches, so it was amazing to see quite a few people share something so candid and heartfelt. It was very touching to hear one of my brothers-in-law say that he was happy to have gained a little sister and glad to see he’s not the youngest in the house anymore. A few family members performed the haka for us, as an Indian myself, I felt so privileged and honoured by that. We had a very casual reception. Since we only had 30 guests, we got up and said hi to every single person instead of just sitting at our table eating, which we both quite enjoyed. He had this aura about him that attracted me, but I wasn’t going to make the first move. Luckily, he told me he had a crush on me, and we kind of went from there. We were official just after two weeks of meeting each other. </p><p style="text-align: center;">We had our struggles because my parents were never on board with our relationship, and I hid our relationship for almost four years before telling them. They wanted me to essentially marry someone they chose, as they are very orthodox, but I knew deep down that no one would treat me the way he does, and he is the best for me. I took that leap of faith and got to know him for who he is, rather than just seeing him as a “Maori,” like my parents did, and it definitely paid off. I could not have asked for a better life partner, and I am so thankful to God for that. </p><p style="text-align: center;">We’ve had each other's backs through thick and thin, and I am so proud of what he’s achieved in the last five years and where we are as a couple. Due to our unfortunate circumstances with my parents being against the relationship, we decided the best thing for us was to elope, so we didn’t have a formal proposal. We saw it as a blessing from God that we had a beautiful day to get married. I was stressed while getting ready as I hadn’t done a practice run for my makeup, but luckily, I came up with something perfect for that day. My two bridesmaids did their own hair and makeup, and they looked so beautiful. They were very supportive and made the wedding a breeze. They helped out wherever they could, and I could not have asked for better bridesmaids. </p><p style="text-align: center;">The ceremony was beautiful; we were surrounded by the people who love us and genuinely wanted to be there. I just wish it had lasted longer. That moment from being at the top of the aisle to exchanging rings went by so quickly, but I can still remember it as clear as day. There were tears of joy from everyone present. It was the most beautiful, intimate, and emotional ceremony ever. Everything was just perfect. </p><p style="text-align: center;">We didn’t have any selected people to do speeches, so it was amazing to see quite a few people share something so candid and heartfelt. It was very touching to hear one of my brothers-in-law say that he was happy to have gained a little sister and glad to see he’s not the youngest in the house anymore. A few family members performed the haka for us, as an Indian myself, I felt so privileged and honoured by that. We had a very casual reception. Since we only had 30 guests, we got up and said hi to every single person instead of just sitting at our table eating, which we both quite enjoyed.
