I never did lose the weight I had planned to, so I was extremely self conscious about my tummy, but this dress made it all disappear!<span class=\"redactor-invisible-space\"></span><br></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\" rel=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.</strong></p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">OMG, the search was disastrous. I purchased a dress online that was beautiful, but I intentionally bought it a size smaller, thinking I’d lose the weight. I didn’t, so I sold that dress. Then I decided to buy a second dress, which was awful, so I sold that too. After that, I bought a third dress online (because I still hadn’t learned my lesson), and this one was even worse than disastrous. I bawled my eyes out because there was no way I could wear that dress to my own wedding.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">So, my mum told me to throw it in the bin and book an appointment at a bridal boutique. By a stroke of luck, I booked two appointments for the very next day at two different bridal boutiques. I found a beautiful dress at the first one for $5,500! Waaaay out of my price range. So when I got to <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/north-shore-auckland.html\" target=\"_blank\">Astra Bridal</a>, I thought there wouldn’t be anything for me.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">In fact, the dress I ended up purchasing wasn’t even the sort I was looking for. <a href=\"https://www.astrabridal.co.nz/joannah1.html\" target=\"_blank\">Joannah</a> and my mum told me to just try it on and see. Getting ready was fun, but I wasn’t feeling well and put it down to nerves. By the time I got to the altar, I was in a full sweat. Not a great look at all. Thank goodness for my Maid of Honour’s fan and my bridal assistant, who gave me a cold, wet towel to cool me down.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">From the photos, you can’t really tell that I was unwell, but I never let how I felt stop me from enjoying my day and evening. It was beyond magical, with all the banana trunk candles around the pool area and path, and the bulbs hanging from the reception table arch/frame. They specialise in wedding dresses, and you can’t get a proper idea of how a style or shape suits your body just from pictures online.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Also, be aware that no wedding is perfect. There will always be something that doesn’t go to plan, but it is usually something small that nobody else would even notice. Only you will be aware of it. It was beyond magical, with all the banana trunk candles around the pool area and path, and the bulbs hanging from the reception table arch/frame. From the moment I arrived, Courtney made me feel completely at ease. She was bubbly, energetic, and so attentive. Between visits, we kept in touch, and each time I returned, she remembered exactly what we’d discussed and brought fresh ideas to the table.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Even though it took me a while to decide, nothing was ever too hard for Courtney. She ultimately recommended a gown I hadn’t initially considered — and I’m so glad I trusted her. When it came time to choose a veil, I knew I didn’t want a traditional headpiece. It’s something we feel incredibly lucky to have experienced. Building our relationship on the foundation of friendship has created a deep sense of respect and understanding. He truly is my best friend.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">He proposed during a birthday trip to one of our favourite spots, Taupo. After dinner one night, we took a walk along the lake at sunset. Although we had discussed getting married, he had told me he didn’t have a ring yet, so I had no idea what was coming. For about six months leading up to the big day, we communicated regularly via email and WhatsApp, sharing ideas, inspiration photos, and plans. She absolutely nailed every detail — I couldn’t have asked for more.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Pavilions Resort coordinated everything — makeup, hair, flowers, cake — and it made the experience so stress-free. Our photographer, Jaran Photography, works closely with the resort and captured the day beautifully.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Since we had a sunset ceremony, we wanted a laid-back morning. My sister-in-law and I woke early for a sunrise walk, followed by a gym session to burn off the excitement. The rest of the day was spent by the pool with our family, laughing and relaxing.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Around 1 pm, we began getting ready — the vibe was calm, light-hearted, and exactly what I had hoped for. After the ceremony, Devon and I had our photo session, then rejoined our guests for an intimate reception dinner and cake cutting.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">We had a very small wedding, and that intimacy made everything feel incredibly personal and meaningful. Once we made the decision to follow our hearts and create the day we wanted—a small, destination wedding—everything fell into place.</p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Don’t be afraid to go against tradition. We skipped the first dance and chose to spend the night before the wedding together—things people told us we “shouldn’t” do.
